Atty. Pablo M. Gancayco, Senior Partner of the Gancayco, Balasbas & Associates Law Offices, has recently been elected as the new President of the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines (IPAP) for three (3) years. As such, he will head the Philippine group in at least three (3) international IP organizations, namely, the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), the Association Internationale Pour La Protection de la Propriete Intellectuelle (AIPPI), and the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association (AIPA).
The Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines (IPAP) is the lead organization responsible for handling, among others, the registration and conflict resolution of intellectual property rights locally. It is the only organization of lawyers engaged in the practice of Intellectual Property Law in the Philippines. Its membership consists of premiere law firms and some of the most well-known lawyers in the country.
IPAP aims to ensure, and further improve, the quality and high standards of practice of Intellectual Property Law in the Philippines; and to further educate its members and the public on the matter. It likewise aims to maintain harmonious and mutually beneficial working relationships with other international Intellectual Property organizations with similar or related purposes.
The Intellectual Property lawyers of the Philippines bestowed upon Atty. Gancayco the distinct honor of being their leader because of his expertise and experience in IP practice locally and internationally for almost 25 years now. He is also recognized by the IP community for his outstanding leadership, service and dedication to the profession.
Atty. Gancayco’s expertise in Intellectual Property and in Commercial Law in general, has exposed him extensively in contracts, negotiations, licensing, franchising and technology transfer works in various fields, such as manufacturing, trading, tourism, pharmaceuticals, banking, investments and agri-business. His expert legal advice is highly sought after by foreign companies who intend to invest in the Philippines. In the process, he was able to develop professional and fiduciary relations with many foreign and local entities and personalities. He is currently a Director of the Freeport Area of the Province of Bataan representing foreign investors.
