Atty. Fortunato R. Balasbas, 1962 - 2016

Born on May 26, 1962 at the City of Manila, Metro Manila, Cresencio Fortunato Ramos Balasbas was a man gifted with intellect and driven with integrity in his work. Earlier in life, he pursued his Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and Bachelor of Laws degrees at the University of the Philippines. He also ranked 7th among those who underwent the Philippine Bar Examination in 1986. Later on in 2002 he would get his Master’s degree in Technology Management from the University of the Philippines as well.
 
As a dedicated public servant, he was a member of the legal panel of the Presidential Commission on Overseas Filipino Workers (later named The Gancayco Commission), created by the President to see into the plight of Overseas Filipino Workers. He was also the Chief of Staff of Ad Hoc and Independent Citizens' Committee, another organization created by the President of the Philippines to look into the funds disbursed for the 1998 Philippines Centennial Celebrations.
 
Atty. Balasbas joined the then retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Emilio A. Gancayco and Atty. Pablo M. Gancayco in the  Gancayco, Balasbas & Associates Law Offices as its managing partner where he pursued private law practice .He was also the Director of Publicus  Asia, Inc. (then Publicus Corp.), the first and only registered lobbying and political management company in the Philippines.
 
Also with a passion for music himself, he was also a trustee of both Tanging Yaman Foundation, Inc. and Friends of Korus Foundation, Inc. – the latter aiming to support the activities of the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus (UPCC). He was also a very active part of the UPCC himself, both as a mentor and a dear friend to his peers.
 
On Monday, January 11, 2016, the dedicated public servant and lawyer has passed away, meeting his maker in Heaven.
 
His remains lie at the Loyola Chapels along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City. Interment will be on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Manila Memorial Park Holy Cross, Novaliches, Quezon City, preceded by a Holy Mass at 2:00 PM.
 
We extend our condolences and sympathies to the family of Atty. C. Fortunato R. Balasbas – his mother Michaelina, to his siblings Ma. Reymunda Carmen, Ma. Margarita, Ma. Dorothea, Cresencio III, Benito, his daughter Celina and nephew Miguel, and other relatives, and together with them, pray for the eternal repose of his soul. May his legacy live on.
