The emergence and prevalence of criminal offenses that cut across borders prompted States to resort to extradition treaty as an effective transnational crime-fighting tool.
In general, an extradition treaty is an international agreement in which the requested state agrees, at the petition of the requesting state and under specified conditions, to turn over persons who are within its jurisdiction and who are charged with crimes against, or are fugitives from, the requesting state.
At present, the Philippines has existing extradition treaties with the following countries: Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Micronesia, Switzerland, Thailand and the United States.
GANCAYCO BALASBAS & ASSOCIATES renders legal and technical service to clients wishing to invoke extradition mechanisms with the foregoing countries.
